Terra Foliage
With the concept of decomposition and regrowth in mind, I was inspired
by the idea of plant growth from decay. By digitally combining hand
painted artwork with photographs, I looked to achieve a carpet design that
highlights the connection between the ideas and emphasizes the
practices of recycling and sustainability. The design was achieved by
exploring and taking photographs of different forms of decay such
as rust, wood rot, and decomposition. Then, I digitally blended these photos
with the plants I observed and drew. This design uses natural, bold colors that
are inspired by a recent WGSN trend forecast for 2025 interiors called
Neolithic Neutrals and Plantopia. These colors represent the overall idea of
sustainability in carpet design. The intricate line work of the hand
painted plants layered with the texture of the natural tones of the photographs,
creates a perfect design to elevate a ballroom floor.
