This collection draws inspiration from the desert, with prints derived from natural textures such as armadillo skin rubbings and rock surfaces, translating organic patterns into a refined visual language. Rooted in the material itself, the collection uses Desserto’s beige and red cactus leather as its foundation, exploring techniques including laser etching, laser cutting, UV printing, and print development to test the material’s technical capabilities and aesthetic potential. Each process became a way of asking what the material could hold and how far it could be pushed. The result is a body of work that positions cactus leather not as a substitute, but as a durable and design-forward foundation for a leather collection in its own right

Beyond its eco-friendly production, cactus leather is also a highly practical and versatile material. It is soft, flexible, and durable, has the potential to last decades with proper care. It resists cracking and scratching, and ages gracefully into a soft, naturally weathered appearance similar to leather. Its ability to be dyed in a wide range of colors and finishes makes it adaptable for many fashion and design applications, offering a compelling alternative without sacrificing quality. Cactus leather offers environmental advantages over both traditional animal leather and synthetic alternatives. Because the nopal cactus is native to dry climates, it requires no irrigation, relying almost entirely on rainfall, and needs no pesticides or toxic fertilizers to thrive.

The cactus also actively absorbs CO2 as it grows, contributing to carbon reduction rather than adding to emissions. Only the mature outer pads are harvested, leaving the cactus alive and rooted so it can continue growing and producing new pads, making the process renewable. A growing number of brands have used Desserto cactus leather across fashion and accessories. Names like Karl Lagerfeld, Fossil, and Adidas use it alongside independent bag labels such as Frida Rome, KAAI, and Santos by Monica. Automotive and interior design companies have also explored it for seating and upholstery.
